Welcome to Quiet Medicine

I’m Lisa Jackson, a fully qualified clinical hypnotherapist who’s been helping couples who want to conceive since 2006.

In 2018 Psychologies magazine published a wonderful article about my work called Can hypnotherapy help with infertility?’ that explains why hypnotherapy is incredibly helpful if you’ve been diagnosed with ‘unexplained infertility’ (the article also appeared on the cover of the March 2020 issue) – do have a look as the author also explains that there’s no need to be apprehensive about having hypnotherapy, which is just a way of spending time in a calm and relaxed state. I provide a caring and supportive environment in which we can work together to effectively resolve any issues that may be affecting your fertility.

I am listed on The Fertile Body Method Therapist Register, having completed the Advanced Training In Fertility Through Hypnosis course with Sjanie Hugo Wurlitzer, formerly a hypnotherapist at the Zita West Fertility Clinic and author of The Fertile Body Method.

I am also a Certified HypnoBirthing® Fertility Consultant, having trained with Lynsi Eastburn, creator of the HypnoBirthing Fertility programme and author of It’s Conceivable! Hypnosis for Fertility.

‘When I discovered hypnosis, I was overweight and needed to gain perspective on the effects my lifestyle was taking on me, my body and my sense of hope to conceive. Sessions with Lisa enabled me to look at what I was prioritising in my life and what effect this could have on my unconscious. No matter how much I believed I wanted a child, I realised that in reality I had left no space in my life for a family. Through self-hypnosis, I learnt to set realistic goals and make achievable changes each week, so that nothing felt insurmountable. I was able to “make room” for the possibility of becoming pregnant and having a family, and lose weight. Amazingly, I got pregnant within a few months of my first session, despite being told by doctors I was unable to conceive naturally after trying for several years. I now have two beautiful girls – and also managed to lose 9kg – thanks to the power of hypnosis.’ JM, Cambridgeshire, Women’s Fitness magazine

Visiting Lisa for our sessions was like a sanctuary, reenergising and rebooting me each time. After each session, I put into practice techniques she taught me helping me to change patterns of behaviour that weren’t serving me or my efforts to get pregnant and I began to rediscover my ‘self’ that I had lost in the fog of trying for a baby. I grew in strength, resilience and optimism. Entering into IVF with hypnotherapy skills by my side, which I used daily, I felt fully prepared mentally and physically to embrace the experience. I cannot thank Lisa enough for her kindness, generosity of spirit and unwavering faith. I want others to know that hope can be found in even the darkest of times and that optimism can be felt even when you haven’t reached your end goal – in my case, a baby.’ Laura Cannon, London, Psychologies magazine

‘I found Lisa while going through round after round of unsuccessful IVF. Her work was invaluable. Her insight. Her technique. Her ability to root out deep-seated fears that may well have been inhibiting my ability to conceive. Her practical tools and exercises – all were key to helping me reach my one and only goal – a beautiful baby boy! She was there through IVF, then my husband and I did HypnoBirthing with her which once again proved invaluable.’ RM, London

‘I came to see Lisa after the death of a very good friend and a few months later also suffering a miscarriage. I was struggling to come to terms with both events and was desperate to get pregnant. After trying various other alternative therapies, I decided to try hypnotherapy. Lisa immediately put me at ease, and taught me self-hypnosis which helped me to relax and release the sad feelings that were holding me back. I am now the proud mother of a beautiful baby girl.’ KB, Kenley

A study published in the Journal Of The American Medical Women’s Association showed that 42% of 132 women experiencing difficulty becoming pregnant conceived within six months of completing a mind/body programme.

In a study published in Fertility And Sterility 55% of the previously infertile women who used mind/body techniques conceived, compared with 20% of the control group who didn’t use these techniques.

Research has shown that hypnotherapy is a very effective aid not only to natural conception but also when used in conjunction with IVF. An Israeli study of 185 women showed that the success rate of IVF treatments doubled from 14% to 28% when the subjects underwent hypnosis during implantation.

One in seven UK couples has difficulty conceiving, according to The Human Fertilisation And Embryology Authority. If you’ve received a diagnosis of ‘unexplained infertility’ you may be feeling frustrated, stressed or anxious about your inability to become pregnant. However, you should in fact view this as good news: it means there’s no physical reason stopping you from becoming parents.

Stress can have a detrimental effect on conception in a number of ways, such as delaying the release of eggs, preventing the implantation of the fertilised egg, and directing blood away from your uterus by triggering the fight or flight response.

Hypnotherapy utilises a variety of different techniques, from relaxation and anxiety reduction through to helping you discover the fears and doubts that may be unconsciously preventing conception. After undergoing hypnotherapy many women report feeling that they’ve ‘got their life back’ and go on to conceive easily and quickly because they’re no longer stressed.

I recommend having six to eight hypnotherapy sessions so that we have adequate time to discuss all the many different factors (such as emotional, physical, lifestyle, past history and relationship issues) that may be affecting your fertility.
