HYPNOSIS FOR FERTILITY
CREATE OPTIMAL FERTILITY
If you’ve been told you have ‘unexplained infertility’ or are about to start IVF (or had numerous failed attempts), hypnotherapy can help. In 2018, Psychologies magazine published a wonderful article called Can hypnotherapy help with infertility? that comprehensively explains my approach. By addressing lifestyle and emotional issues in a caring and supportive environment, you can enhance your fertility and, according to some studies, more than double your chances of conceiving.
I completed the Advanced Training In Fertility Through Hypnosis course with Sjanie Hugo Wurlitzer, formerly a hypnotherapist at the Zita West Fertility Clinic and author of The Fertile Body Method
I am also a Certified HypnoBirthing Fertility Consultant, having trained with Lynsi Eastburn, creator of the HypnoFertility programme and author of It’s Conceivable! Hypnosis for Fertility
SESSIONS REQUIRED
I recommend having a minimum of six sessions so that we have adequate time to discuss all the many different factors that may be affecting your fertility.
WHAT AFFECTS FERTILITY?
Your lifestyle can affect fertility, such as being overweight, consuming alcohol or caffeine, having an unhealthy diet or being sedentary. Emotional factors also have to be considered, such as having unresolved traumas that need to be worked through (terminations, miscarriages, stillbirths, abusive past relationships or bereavements). Your own difficult birth, or stories you’ve heard of others’ traumatic births can also impede conception, as can a fear of imitating negative parenting styles, or a life that’s so busy there isn’t ‘room’ for a baby. The most common issue, however, is stress, as having fertility issues and undergoing IVF are extremely stressful experiences. This is why you’ll be taught a calming breathing technique and self-nurture strategies, and be given relaxing hypnotherapy recordings, so that you can learn to restore balance in your life.
Stress is extremely detrimental to fertility because it can delay the release of eggs and prevent the implantation of fertilised eggs. The ‘flight or fight’ response channels blood away from your reproductive organs and into your arms and legs to prepare you to flee or fight. Stress also has a negative effect on hormones: boosting levels of fertility-inhibiting prolactin and reducing levels of progesterone, which is essential for building and maintaining the uterine lining.
TESTIMONIALS & PRESS
Psychologies
‘Visiting Lisa for our sessions was like a sanctuary, re-energising and rebooting me each time. After each session, I put into practice techniques she taught me, helping me to change patterns of behaviour that weren’t serving me or my efforts to get pregnant and I began to rediscover my ‘self’ that I had lost in the fog of trying for a baby. I grew in strength, resilience and optimism. Entering into IVF with hypnotherapy skills by my side, which I used daily, I felt fully prepared mentally and physically to embrace the experience. I cannot thank Lisa enough for her kindness, generosity of spirit and unwavering faith. I want others to know that hope can be found in even the darkest of times and that optimism can be felt even when you haven’t reached your end goal – in my case, a baby.’
Women’s Fitness
‘When I discovered hypnosis, I was overweight and needed to gain perspective on the effects my lifestyle was having on me, my body and my sense of hope to conceive. Sessions with Lisa enabled me to look at what I was prioritising in my life and what effect this could have on my unconscious. No matter how much I believed I wanted a child, I realised that in reality I had left no space in my life for a family. Through self-hypnosis, I learnt to set realistic goals and make achievable changes each week, so that nothing felt insurmountable. I was able to “make room” for the possibility of becoming pregnant and having a family, and lose weight. Amazingly, I got pregnant within a few months of my first session, despite being told by doctors I was unable to conceive naturally after trying for several years. I now have two beautiful girls – and also managed to lose 9kg – thanks to the power of hypnosis.’
‘I came to see Lisa after the death of a very good friend and a few months later also suffering a miscarriage. I was struggling to come to terms with both events and was desperate to get pregnant. After trying various other alternative therapies, I decided to try hypnotherapy. Lisa immediately put me at ease, and taught me self-hypnosis which helped me to relax and release the sad feelings that were holding me back. I am now the proud mother of a beautiful baby girl.’ KB
HYPNOTHERAPY WORKS!
A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Women’s Association showed that 42% of 132 women experiencing difficulty becoming pregnant conceived within six months of completing a mind/body programme.
In a study published in Fertility And Sterility, 55% of the previously infertile women who used mind/body techniques conceived, compared with 20% of the control group who didn’t use these techniques.
Research has shown that hypnotherapy is a very effective aid not only to natural conception but also when used in conjunction with IVF. An Israeli study of 185 women showed that the success rate of IVF treatments doubled from 14% to 28% when the subjects underwent hypnosis during implantation.
